Five Ideas for Christmas Explorations

Every day, new decorations pop up around the house… packages arrive… delicious aromas fill the air… sometimes I even remember to stop and snap a photo….

Hanging Ornaments

Of our son helping put our special Ornaments With Love car ornament on the tree…

Of him decorating our mini tree…insisting on wearing the jingle bell wreath around his neck!

Decorating Gingerbread Houses

Of the King Arthur Flour gingerbread house kit I decorated… my little guy gobbled the gingerbread man the minute my back was turned! And every morning at breakfast he looks longingly at the house and says, “More house!”

Retelling the Christmas Story

Of telling the story of Jesus to my son with our new Betty Lukens felt storyboard…he loves to arrange the pictures himself when I’m done!

Christmas Crafts

Of embarking down the road of toddler crafts like fingerpainting…

Of his beautiful “first painting” of a Christmas tree!

Admiring Christmas Cards

Of watching our door fill up with Christmas greetings from friends and family… stuck in place with Holiday Restickables!

It’s been a beautiful Christmas season so far… my son LOVES every minute, and all these activities have been so fun and engaging for him and our whole family! Hmm… could it be so bad if we could get a LITTLE snow?

What have your holiday preparations been like so far?

My holiday preparations have been mostly in the realm of crafts to give as gifts. We did a big day of tamales and cookies/cake balls. We did decorating. We have a little tree and cardboard village the kids have been playing with. We even made T Rex's beloved stuffed cats their own stockings and he helped me build them bunk beds as well as bedding for those beds so he can gift them to his "babies". He says they also need a teddy bear and twin baby dolls - I did manage to make tiny versions of these with my crochet needle to stuff in those little cat stockings. Why are tiny things so hard compared to larger versions? I think these are some of my favorite things I've done. It's such a lovely time of the year. Although, we try hard to do wonderful things all year - try, being the operative term. Every year it gets a little better.

I have been trying to get a hand print Christmas tree made with the entire family, but am still trying to get us all together and willing to do it at the same time. My idea was to use a huge piece of paper and have my husband do the bottom two rows, then my teen do the nest two (his hand is bigger than mine now!), then me, and finally our little guy can finish the treetop. Seeing how great yours turned out has me wanting to try to get it done even more! And, if I can't get a family one done, I know a 3 y.o. who will always be excited to stick his hands in green paint!
