I’ve tried a lot of combinations for night diapering with my older son. Either I had to deal with leaks and smelly PJs, or deal with so many layers I could not get my son’s pajama bottoms on all the way!
So I am determined to find better options for our baby so I don’t have to deal with this for the next two years!
I believe I have discovered my night diapering solution in the Red Barn Heavy Doody diaper.
Red Barn Cloth Diapers are an official cottage licensee for Nifty Nappy diapers. Check out my thoughts on the regular fitted diaper I reviewed last year. (Still in use on child #2 now!).
The Heavy Doody diaper has an advantage in that the outer shell is also an organic hemp fleece fabric, just like the inner sandwich layer. So the absorbency doubles! Absolutely necessary for night diapering.
Plus, all those natural layers allow the fabric to be breathable, which can help prevent rashing.
The hemp / bamboo insert folds in half to lay in the diaper. I have been adding another insert under the insert provided because I’m using this as a night diaper and I’m taking no chances! And the results: no leaks the whole night through!
The Heavy Doody does require a cover over it, and sometimes I add a fleece cover over that just in case. Use wool for the best results! Jenni also makes the Wooly Wrap that goes with her diapers!
My favorite feature of all the Red Barn diapers are the FOUR snaps closing the diaper across the front. This lets you get the best waist fit of all the fitteds I have tried. And the four snaps (versus some have just two or three) prevents droop on the sides, and keeps the diaper snugly in place. Which I think reduces chaffing. My baby does not get red lines in this diaper!
The Heavy Doody is a one size diaper, with hidden elastics that let you fit this diaper from baby to toddler. Although the website did mention that the optimal fit is on a 9-18 month old.
If you’re looking for a night diapering solution, Red Barn Heavy Doody diapers are $26.50 each.
Red Barn makes the Nifty Nappy regular fitted, an AI2 that does not require a cover, Bitty Bums for newborns, and SwimzEaze swim diaper! I have almost everything in the entire line by now!! They are all made with high quality construction and materials! And Jenni is always willing to help you with fit, sizing and picking out the perfect diaper for your needs!
What do you use for night diapering?
