You’d think after nearly four years…
A) cloth diapering in our house would be by rote. And,
B) there wouldn’t be too much to talk about on the topic of cloth diapers
However, a revelation occurred last night on the ride home from the grocery store. A little cloth diaper humor, shall we say?
I was musing to my hubby about when we’d be done cloth diapering….and I said, “I guess I won’t be reviewing cloth diapers anymore.”
To my shock, he replied, “That would be an answer to prayer!”
Confused, I said, “Really? That we’d be done with cloth or that I wouldn’t be reviewing more diapers?”
Him: Reviewing! There’s so many different diapers in our house. Everything has a different insert. I just can’t believe that there’s new diapers coming out! That they can create so many different kinds! Some are big, thick, extra long. Then skinnier ones, then I fold them up and I’m like “how is this supposed to fit around their butt.” All the inserts look exactly the same—
Me: No they don’t, some have one snap, some have none, some have two. Some diapers are all in one so you don’t have to match them up.
Him: No, they all look the same. The names on the tags wash off and then I can’t figure out how to put them with the right cover.
Me: You have to have a system. Don’t let two loads of diapers get mixed up, otherwise, forget it! Cloth diaper pandemonium.
Him: But sometimes the laundry doesn’t get turned over fast enough, we need more laundry baskets!
Me: Okay, but you have to have a system. You lay out all the covers, then you match up the inserts you know, and then you figure out the ones you don’t know.
Him: No, it’s just a blind grab. First cover and first insert – they go together!
Me: Nooooooo!!
So. There you have it. Silly cloth diaper humor! Or… insights into our deep and probing conversations about cloth diapering dilemmas.
I have to say though, hubby does a great job of keeping the diaper laundry moving…he’s always throwing a load in the wash to dryer before work!
But I probably shouldn’t tell him about the new diapers on their way here for the Merry Fluffy Christmas Event!! (Yes! I’m participating!). I’ll just sneak them into the laundry and hope they blend in!
Does your husband participate in your cloth diapering adventures? Who’s more savvy about the various brands and styles?
Love the dialogue. We have a basic stash of similar diapers so we keep it simple around here. We did just get notification of our cloth diaper rental from Modern Cloth – the diaper shipped and should be here in another day or so. I am excited about that. I did purchase a couple of Bummis newborn covers to use as well. We were just getting nervous the rental of gently used diapers would not be here in time. But, at least I have some covers I can keep for the baby’s scrap box. I remember before you started reviewing diapers – I had so many more diapers than you. Now, I pale in comparison!

My hubby falls under the blind free for all technique as well. It’s a bit frustrating at times but then again, with two in diapers, I’m just thankful he takes it upon himself to change them at all.

When it comes to the cloth diapers, I do it all, and I don’t mind at all. But we sure do have some funny conversations about them. I got a good laugh out of this post!

I’m definitely more knowledgeable re. cloth diapers. My husband as put fitted diapers on without a cover, and then 2-3 hours later wondered why it was damp on the outside. The guys I know, just don’t get it.

I own a cloth diaper store, so I like to try every type of diaper that I consider stocking for my own customers. It definitely frustrates my husband, who’s a really good sport about cloth diapers and changes the baby all the time! We have 3-4 brands that work well for our son and that both Mama and Daddy like, so I try to rotate the others out to keep things simple!
Julie what if he reads this post? Perhaps if he does he will have to put up a new post of his own. I think he is a bit over due, don’t you?

Wow, you ladies are trusting! I don’t let DH touch the diaper laundry! He always offers though!

My husband is great about our cloth diaper laundry! He takes it down to the washer and is usually the one to put it through the cycles and dryer. Once he brings the laundry basket up I take over. He can’t remember which inserts go with which diapers either, so I do the folding and stuffing most of the time. (We have the diapers stuffed and ready to go at the changing table.) It works out well that way for us.
