I’ve had my boys working in the kitchen with me since they were toddlers. Small tasks like sprinkling cookies, or mixing dry ingredients is just right for those little hands. I even shared a post years ago about 10 great “recipes” for toddlers in the kitchen! Now my kids are growing, and so is their kitchen ability! Here’s some great gift ideas for getting kids in the kitchen with you!
*Always have adult supervision when kids are cooking and handling kitchen tools and equipment.
Gift Ideas for Getting Kids in the Kitchen
First, I’d recommend for the little ones, having a Learning Tower. It’s a bit of an expense but it’s lasted our family years, and can still be handed down. I feel completely safe having both boys at the counter with me, and not worrying about whether they’ll fall off the edge of a small stool or tip over. The base can be raised and lowered as they grow, and it comfortably fits two children under the age of six.
And now, the fun stuff!
Pampered Chef Kids’ Cookie Baking Set
A child-sized and child-safe mixing bowl set is an essential for little bakers. There’s many “play kitchen” kits out there, but get your children real cooking equipment that will last decades! Pampered Chef has always been known for their quality cooking utensils and baking wares, so they’re an obvious choice for kid-size kitchen gear! They’ve recently come out with several kid bundles including the Kids’ Cookie Baking Set. (And yes, they do have a kid-sized baking stone for that perfectly baked cookie!).
This set is filled with tools that were tested and approved by actual children! Stackable dry measuring cups in exciting colors snap into the base of a large 3-cup liquid measuring cup. Hey! That’s bigger than MY glass measuring cup! I may have to borrow the kids’ tools!
The Mixing Bowl is a cool turquoise color with easy-grip handle and wide pour spout. The nonslip ring at the bottom assists children as they try their hand at mixing. The Funny Face Kitchen Scraper will bring a smile and the handle is bamboo, one of my favorite natural materials! Kids will find the Mini Nylon Serving Spatula easy to handle. Both mixing tools are heat-resistant. These are REAL tools, people!
Recipe cards are included with a variety of kid-friendly favorites like Peanut Butter cookies and Shortbread Sugar Cookies. The Emoji Cookie Cutter set includes 7 large cutters with designs created by kids! The rounded edges help kids easily stamp out cookies, and the circles snap together for tidy storage.
The Pampered Chef Kids’ Cookie Baking Set retails for $64.50, and recommended for ages 6+ (But my 4 year old has no trouble handling these tools!).
FunBites Food Cutters
Picky eaters will disappear when you bring out the FunBites food cutters. Recently named the 10th best product featured on Shark Tank (!!), FunBites cuts up food into darling little shapes perfect for small hands. Triangles, Squares, Hearts, and even licensed characters like Paw Patrol and Minions! Parents will enjoy watching kids eat their bite-sized bits, and kids will have fun with food prep using these tools!
Simple to use: you just remove the popper top, place the cutter onto the food and rock it back and forth until you’ve sliced the food into shapes! Insert the popper top to push out any stuck pieces. Cut bread, lunchmeat, cheese, fruit, and more! It’s great motor skill work for kids, and delightful for making those bento-box lunches. FunBites makes healthy food more fun!
Created by a mom from Connecticut (like me!) with picky eaters (like most of us!), FunBites is such an innovative kitchen tool and a perfect first start to food prep for little kids!
FunBites make great stocking stuffers! Collect all the shapes!
Handstand Kitchen Pizza Set & Kids’ Aprons
Pizza making is a favorite kitchen activity for our family. Our boys have been tossing dough since they could hold a clump of it without trying to eat it raw! Handstand Kitchen‘s Pizza Making Set for kids offers authentic tools just the right size for small hands. There’s a silicone pizza pan for personal sized pies, a rolling pin for dough, and a child-safe pizza cutter. And, the super cute tomato-shaped spatula helps kids serve their own dinner. Five pizza slice shaped recipe cards give ideas for how to make the dough, sauce, and more!
Pair any of Handstand Kitchen’s baking sets with an apron, hat, and oven mitt set! Kids will love the vibrant prints, like stars and planets. Parents will love that the fabric is high quality and adjustable for perfect fit (kids ages 5-9). The oven mitt has protective padding as well.
