Gift Guide 2012: Joovy Tricycoo Tricycle Review

He doesn’t have a license yet. But watch out, my son is a driving machine! He often “drives” at the table, and waits for me to say, “Red light.” Then he yells, “STOP!” When I say, “Green light,” he starts driving again. I’ve also been teaching him to use the horn when other cars pull in front of him.
So you can imagine the excitement in the house when he came downstairs to his new Joovy Tricycoo! A modern tricycle that grows with your kids! (UPDATED 10/14/14 – we have a 2.5 yo and a 4.5 year old and they both use this trike!)

Starting at 18 months, you can use the Tricycoo with the “baby surround arms” so your child is safely enclosed. The arms lock in tightly but there is also a separate piece that you insert to fully lock the arms shut (although I wish this somehow attached to the trike because I am always misplacing it in the house! Kinda like my car keys!). Kids learn to balance and pedal while you push and steer with the parent push handle in the back. If they aren’t ready to pedal yet, use the fold down footrest for them to just enjoy the ride. The pedals can be locked or unlocked, depending on whether you want the child to propel under their own steam or not.

When they are ready, remove the arms and handle, fold up the footrest, and let them go!

My son has been enjoying just having me push him. This is his first ride on toy (with wheels), so he’s a little daunted by the whole thing, and has a hard time understanding how to pedal, but we’re working on it! He actually loves having the arms on – I think it’s because it feels like he’s getting into a car and closing the door!

Joovy Tricycoo Features

The Joovy Tricycoo is high quality, with injection molded wheels (they are really quiet on our hardwood flooring!). There’s a bell kids can ring, and a large basket in the back for taking along toys!

The Tricycoo holds children up to 44 pounds, so I know we’ll get a lot of use out of this over the next year or so, and then it’ll be time to hand it down to our second boy.

This grow-with-you trike makes a great Christmas gift item – think how awesome it will look fully assembled under (well, next to!) the tree on Christmas morning! (Assembly was not that bad, said hubby, but still, don’t wait till Christmas eve!).

I've been wanting to try something like this out, but my hands have usually been too busy to do so.
