I’m kind of a fan of the “all-in-0ne” concept. Especially when it comes to baby gear, so you don’t have a huge pileup of items baby outgrows.
The Stokke Tripp Trapp chair is the ultimate in all-in-one concepts – it goes from babyhood right up through adulthood! Amazing, right?
The designer, Peter Opsvik said, “My objective was that one chair should seat persons of all sizes in a natural way at the same table. My hope was that this would make sitting at the table more enjoyable and make activities easier to perform there.”
Did you know there are specific guidelines for seating babies and children? I didn’t until I researched the Tripp Trapp. For instance, young babies should not be in a high chair until they can sit without support – they are better off on a playmat or a playpen. Even when they can sit, the duration should be short (10-15 minutes) because baby spines and muscles need better support than sitting in a chair – even an ergonomic one like the Tripp Trapp.
The biggest benefit of the Tripp Trapp is its adjustability – proper seating posture means a child’s elbows should be table height, legs supported about 90 degrees, and 2 inches of space between the back of the knees and the seat front (for circulation). Because the Tripp Trapp footrest can be adjusted up and down, and the seat depth goes forward and backward, it’s a chair that adapts to your child as they grow! I don’t know of any other seat that can accommodate all these variables.
The Tripp Trapp comes with baby seat and tray accessories, as well as a cushion. Our baby can’t hold it’s head up yet, or sit unsupported, so we have not been able to try this feature out. I’ll take some pictures when he is ready for that!
I love the wooden construction, sleek lines and modern appearance of the Tripp Trapp! There’s even thirteen colors to pick from! Our toddler loves his “big boy” chair! (anything “big boy” is a huge hit with him!). There’s a five-point harness that he knows how to buckle himself! This chair is so great, I told hubby we should replace ALL our kitchen table chairs with these! In all honesty, I want another one for our second child, too!
Stokke has three generations of family ownership, creating unique, functional products, and since 2006, has focused on the child/baby product market. They also make the Stokke HandySitt – portable, secure seating – great for traveling (it did not work in restaurant booths for us, though! Or chairs with high backs.). Attached the HandySitt to the back of most chairs, or use it as a freestanding chair placed on the floor. I love how easy it is – like a folding chair for kids. Like the Tripp Trapp, the HandySitt has back support plus seat adjustment so the child’s feet rest properly.
Strollers and a baby carrier are also part of the Stokke lineup – and I’ll be sharing more about the baby carrier with you in a future post!
I think a lovely Christmas or baby shower gift would be the handsome Tripp Trapp Seat! Don’t you?
