It’s been awhile since I shared some silly stories from the kiddos… eight months actually! I guess I have a lot of catch up to do! I’m thinking of making their silly stories a monthly feature to keep these sweet and laugh-worthy memories as more than a passing post on Facebook.
Don’t mind me while I indulge in a little “awww, remember that” today. I just love the funny things that come out of my son because he either doesn’t understand how to say a word, or what the word means!

At the store, he saw bagels and says, “Mommy! I want the donut bread!” … I have failed. Or succeeded. It depends on your point of view.

On the way home listening to kids’ songs, we heard “I’ve Got a Home in Gloryland That Outshines the Sun” After the line “…way beyond the blue…” our son starts crying and saying, “I don’t wannnna gooooo!” I asked him what was the matter, and he said, “I don’t WANT to go to the moon! We’re not on the moon, we’re on the SUN!”He must have thought they were saying “We’ll be on the moon”!!

The baby is in his crib. Our oldest goes walks in to talk to him and I hear him tell the baby, “Okay, let’s play hide and seek. You hide and I’ll count.”

“Mom! look at my car table! I orga-ZINED it!”
July 24, 2013
He brings me the gray crayon and asks me for help pulling down the paper wrapping. I say, “This is the Gray crayon. Did you know Gray is the baby’s middle name?” He nods. I ask, “What’s your middle name?” He immediately says, “Green!”

Sometimes I make up bedtime stories. One night, trying to get him to sleep in a new place, I lay down next to him and told him the story of a little boy (with his name) who couldn’t go to sleep. So he tried counting sheep…but they were too fluffy, then he tried counting cars, but they were too noisy. Then he tried counting turtles and they were so slow he only counted one and fell asleep.
But the funny part is when I was “pointing” with my index finger at the imaginary (of course) sheep in the air, I was counting “one sheep, two sheep, three sheep” and he stops me and says, “don’t point ‘one’ when you’re counting two lambs and three lambs.” He wanted me to point “two” with two fingers, “three” with three fingers and so forth!

“Ca-tatch” = to connect and attach an object at the same time!
September 2, 2013
After vacation he asked me for more of the penny candy we got at the general store. I said “I think we need to stop with the candy for awhile.”
He replied “no mom we need to GOOOO with the candy!!”

The joys of a pocket door. Our oldest has been playing “elevator” with the door lately, going in and out of the bathroom.
He goes in and the elevator goes up, comes down, and is mysteriously in a new place…the park, the construction site…it’s a wonderful elevator.
Then he comes out of his “elevator” at one point and says, “I’m HERE! I’m litter-ly [literally] HERE!”

He wrote his full name on his own!
November 15, 2013
Our son asked me why I stayed awake after putting him to bed. I told him because I was a “night owl” and liked to stay up later.
A few days later, putting him to bed, he says, “Mommy, I need to stay up, because I’m a ‘wakey owl!”… then he says, “Is Daddy a ‘wakey owl?”
No, Daddy’s an “early bird!”
November 21, 2013
I asked our son what he’s thankful for, and like every other day in November, he says “Trains.”
I say, “What’s something else we pray and say thank you for when we sit down for dinner?”
Asher says, “Food.”
Me: “Great, so we can be thankful for food too!”
Asher says: “I can be thankful for Food Trains!”
I’d say “one track mind” but that would be too punny…
November 27, 2013
He starts counting on the way home one night: “seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, ……TEN-teen!!!!”
December 12, 2013
I wrote out Asher’s name tag for his construction costume… he promptly takes the card OUT of the tag holder and says, “Okay, now I need to pay!”
I said, “Don’t you need money?”
“No, Mommy,” he said, holding up the card.
I think some financial lessons are in order! In fact, I just shared a series of ideas on Kids & Money on my Sulia channel this weekend!

You know how when you read a familiar book to kids and kinda skip a few words so you can get the kids to bed a little faster and also because they chose the longest picture book in the history of children but I know none of you do that so just humor me.
Well. Our son brought this one up to a whole new level. I was reading Fish is Fish and… NOT skipping any words. And he told me insisted I hadn’t read a part. I went back thinking maybe I had dropped a word or two but no… Then he said, “You have to read the part about the frog catching the bugs”…
Which isn’t in the text!!! He thinks ANY part of the picture is also in the words and I need to read them.
Folks, we could be up all night if that is the case!!!!
January 21, 2014
He asked to pray for dinner and it goes like this: “… and thank you for my family, and warm beds, and thank you for snow, and…” [he looks up at me,] “Mom, are we going to go out and play in the snow?”
Me: “Yes maybe tomorrow”
Son: [continues praying] “and thank you for maybe playing in the snow…”
January 25, 2014
He was sad to have to take a nap one day, so I said, “Just think of it as recharging your batteries – you need to sleep to get more energy!” … about an hour later, he pads down the hallway and says, “Mommy… I have enough batteries now!”

I just love the unexpected moments of laughter our two kids give us!

So cute. I think we've had a similar hide and seek moment in our house too. Oh, and you haven't failed with donut bread. Both donuts and bagels are good. If you put them together, I envision the cinnamon sugar bagels sold at the local Blue Sky Bagel shop. =)
