Picture Books About Camping with Kids

Reading picture books about camping really helps us get into the camping mood.

After a year off to have a baby, this summer found us reacquainting ourselves with our gear. This summer’s camping adventures weren’t always pretty, but we did have quite a bit of fun!

Picture Books About Camping!

Here’s a few of our favorite books about camping for little kids (and I love them too!). (Affiliate links). 

Curious George Goes Camping – When isn’t this monkey having some kind of adventure! He can’t help it – he’s just too curious, and when you’re curious at camp, things get really interesting!

Whistling – Possibly my favorite book of all! A dad takes his son camping and teaches him how to whistle. Not to mention all the illustrations? They’re actually photos of real quilts! It’s quite stunning to watch the sunrise via the handmade quilted scenes.

When We Go Camping – Lyrical yet realistic story of a family’s time camping. The illustrations have hidden pictures of forest animals for kids to spot as you read (the answers are in the back of the book)!

Toasting Marshmallows: Camping Poems – The poems tell the story of a family camping adventure. Each can be read alone, but read together, it’s quite a lovely story. 

What Camping Can Teach Us: Life’s Lessons Learned From The Great Outdoors – A book of famous quotations illustrated with photographs. Really fun to look at, but sometimes leans towards more mature humor (good clean fun though).

Maisy Goes Camping: A Maisy First Experience Book – Who doesn’t love a Maisy story!? Please don’t tell me, because I think we can’t be friends! Simple, funny, and sweet.
