Freezing up some fun with Zoku Pops

I know I probably shouldn't be thinking popsicles when it's still winter here... but I do love a good frozen treat. Trouble is, have you seen all the things that are IN most ice creams and popsicles? I can barely find any with just whole fruit or fruit juices.

So I was thrilled to get to review the Zoku Quick Pop Maker!

I've tried making yogurt pops with and without fruit, double-flavored, and with faces. And I've tried 100% fruit juice pops, which you can get really creative with making stripes and other designs! Check out this strawberry yogurt pop with fresh strawberries embedded - doesn't it look like a heart (sorta?)? Perfect for a party or shower!

The Zoku is so easy to use - really! You just freeze it for 24 hours, then put the sticks in, pour in your pop juice or yogurt (even make soda pops!) and wait. About 7-9 minutes later you have perfect pops (clearly I still need to watch my fill line!). You can do about 3 rounds before the pop maker thaws (less if you're making fancy stuff!). You can use your imagination to make unique pops, mixing and matching colors and flavors - even chocolate dipping the pops! My favorite part, of course, is now I can make organic popsicles because I choose the juices and yogurts I use!

I also tried out the Zoku Character Kit, which adds a whole new dimension of fun. Okay, now this accessory takes some practice. I love cutting the shapes out of thinly sliced fruit, but I keep having a hard time not bumping the wall of the pop maker when I slide them in... so my faces generally don't end up where I want them too! Here's one face I tried to make... it didn't turn out great for a photo!

But I am still practicing, and it will be so fun when I get to this level:

What flavor popsicle would you make?

  26. I so wish I could get my little guy into popsicles or some kind of treat that was cold. Maybe just a frozen yogurt pop or frozen milk may do the trick. Then if I added a face he may really embrace it. Our daughter will eat anything.

The technology sounds so cool - pardon the pun. I may have to add one of these to my wish list.

You did a great job on this review. I was actually not the least bit interested until I started to read and then hear about your experiences - then my interest was peaked and suddenly I found myself thinking up ways of using the device and then saying, "Hmmm, I may need to get one of these." Well done.

  30. Dd loves popscicles! She is especially fond of frozen yogurt pops. This is a fast way of making them for her without her having to wait hours for them to be ready! It will save me the headache of listening to her ask over and over and over again if they are ready yet! LOL

  34. The strawberry one looks delicious! We have a cheapo popsicle that we don't use because it's missing pieces and they're difficult for a toddler to hold. Those handles are my favorite part! When I started out I'd make them with fresh juices, maybe a little carrot juice, some apple. They came out pretty good but icy, not creamy looking like these so I'm going to try that yogurt strawberry.
