The days go fast, nights too. Between meals, and errands, potty training and diaper changes… Our family spends “quantity time” together and that is healthy, I think, to ensure our daily rhythms always include each other.
Still, we enjoy caving out “quality time” moments … The ones we hope will shine like winking stars in our children’s memories.
Friday nights are usually “pizza and play” nights… AKA “family game night.” Sometimes we do play an actual “board games” – usually Memory or matching.
Last week we brought out some new toys just arrived from Manhattan Toy. They have a new imagine i CAN series with 28 arts & craft, DIY, role-play and puppet kits for open-ended play.
Our son is enamored with the Caterpillar Connect game – it’s the first time he’s had to “roll the dice” to play. This game is teaching him to “read” the color on the die and follow the directions, as well as take turns. But when we’re not playing, he still likes to take out all the pieces and create a great big caterpillar! (Ages 3+, $6.00).
I was impressed with how improved his hand-eye coordination is when we assembled the lion from the Lace & Play Animals collection. A colorful cardboard shape to decorate with pieces and googly eyes. Then hang or play! (Also comes in Fish, Ram, and Porcupine!). (Ages 3+, $5.00)
The Feel Better MD doctor’s kit was not the hit I imagined it would be. I was excited about him using the mask, sling and reflex hammer among other pretend items to patch up his stuffed animals. I think our recent trip to the real doctor, where our son saw his baby brother get a shot made him a bit wary of anything “doctor.” However, I’ve left the lunchbox kit out and he’s asked me a few questions about the sling and medicine bottle. I eventually got him to give his lion toy a “checkup!” I must say, our son has very polite bedside manners! ($20.00).
Manhattan Toy’s new line is engaging and encourages discovery learning for children ages 3 to 8+. Since each toy come in a lovely tin package for storage, are great for birthday party gifts, family activity night, solo play or cooperative play! (I think the knitting and sewing kits look very interesting!). You can check out kids playing with all the kits from Manhattan Toy on their YouTube video.
