The Case for Cloth Wipes

Cloth wipes. Are you using them?

Although I never thought I would use them initially, I found I enjoy my cloth wipes! I have an assortment of terry, bamboo velour, cotton flannel, and even a few minky wipes I made. (It’s fun to make your own with leftover flannel or even old t-shirts, because you can personalize the colors/prints!). Tossed in sometimes are those small, kinda flimsy washclothes for babies – they are nice and soft for wipes!

Cloth wipes are used about 75% of the time in my cloth diapering routine. After trying it out, I decided I don’t like traveling with cloth wipes, because I will have a run of days that I stay home – and the pre-moistened cloth wipes were getting mildewy from sitting in the diaper bag so long. I also don’t keep any downstairs. So the downstairs and the diaper bag I  use disposables.

My cloth wipes routine is pretty simple. I use an old wipes tub and keep them folded in half in there. For solution, I either use plain water, or water with about a tablespoon of baby soap mixed in.

I use my cloth wipes for so many things – like wiping my son’s face and hands before naptime, cleaning up small messes, and even blowing his nose, because a soft, damp cloth helps to get the “crusties” out less painfully!

And, I like not having to fish shredded disposable wipes out of the laundry – so that’s a plus! Add to that not having to worry about running out of wipes, and the small, but still nice savings from not having to buy wipes all the time… and we’re hooked!

Do you use cloth wipes? What kind are your favorites and how do you use them?

I love cloth wipes too. I use terry wipes for cleaning poop and flannel wipes for pee. Infact cloth wipes work so much better than disposable wipes.

I use disposables when out too, which is not very often. But when they finally run out I won't buy anymore. We use cloth wipes for everything. Wipes, Family Cloth (well me), Napkins, PaperTowels, Kleenex.

I've been using cloth wipes for almost 15 years. They clean so easily with clorox2 and I clean them every other day.
