Tot Explorations: 7 Learning Activities With Lids

My son’s favortive snacks are those yummy “pouchies” like the Earth’s Best Fruit and Yogurt Smoothies. We get our son these pouches quite often for travel, Sunday School snacks, and special treats!

Since I like to reuse packaging when I can, we save the pouch lids and use them for many activities with our toddler. Here are a few:

Color sorting / matching – the more lids you have for this, the better! We don’t quite have enough in each color yet!

Counting Skills – Pointing at objects while counting aloud is an important skill that can be mastered by age three for many children.

Creating designs – Design flowers, animals, and other shapes – just keep moving them around to form pleasing designs!

Stacking – The lids on the pouches sort of nest, but are a bit tippy, so it’s fun to see how high you can get them before they topple!

Pattern making – Children can learn to follow a pattern – either one you start or they can create one to repeat!

Noise Makers – Put a handful of lids into a container and shake, shake, shake!

Bead stringing – A fine motor skill activity – just get a shoelace or ribbon, tape one end to make it sturdy, and children can weave the lace through the holes in the lids!

How else could you envision using these lids for preschool activities? I know Lindsay from SEBG blog posted on how to use lids for painting – so clever!
