If you’re looking for a sweet Valentine’s Day card for your kids to make and give their friends, then these “Write Friend” Valentine’s Day card printables are perfect for your family or class! Bonus: They include activity cards and make a great writing project.
I’ve loved seeing my boys catch the writing bug. They love making cards and sending mail, and writing notes and little stories. Adorable! I saw this idea to combine a greeting with a writing / game activity in a mom group, so I borrowed the catchy “write friend” phrase and designed my own friend Valentine’s Day card printable for my boys! These are the perfect Valentine’s Day cards for them to send to friends.

Why These Printable Cards Work So Well for Writing
One of the reasons I love having my boys write Valentine cards like these is that the writing stays manageable. A short message feels doable — even for kids who usually freeze when asked to “write a paragraph.” The space is intentionally small, which naturally encourages them to pause and think: What do I really want to say? Which words matter most?
Because they’re writing for real friends, the activity becomes meaningful and exciting rather than feeling like an assignment. The blank back of the Valetine Card provides just enough room for a short note or thoughtful phrase, keeping the focus on genuine expression without turning it into a big writing project.

Make & Give: “Write Friend” Valentine’s Day Card
Materials:
- A copy of the printable “Write Friend” Valentine’s Cards & Activities from my Etsy shop (this set includes light writing activities like word scrambles, a short story prompt, a word search, plus a few fun games like tic-tac-toe, mazes, and matching to keep kids engaged)
- White cardstock
- Markers, colored pencils, or crayons (new, for gifting)
- Pen/Pencil (for writing on cards)
- Metal book rings (or plastic ones)
- Single hole puncher
- Optional: twine or ribbon to attach a marker/crayon, or small treat bags to hold them.

Directions:
- Print out enough Valentine’s Cards for the number of friends your child will give a card to (there’s 4 to a sheet).
- Print out enough Valentine’s Activities for the number of recipients. There are 8 different activities. You can choose to attach 1 or more activity cards per recipient.
- Cut the Write Friends cards and activity cards out.
- Have children sign the bottom of the Write Friend card for each recipient. The back will be blank, so there is also space for a short written message to their friend.
- Select an Activity card (or more!) for each friend. Place a Valentine Card on top of the activity card(s) selected. Hole punch the corner of these cards with either a round or heart-shaped hole punch tool.
- Connect the cards with a book ring.
- Tie on a marker, crayon, or colored pencil to the ring with bakery twine. This isn’t super secure, but it’s enough to keep it in place for gifting. Younger students may need assistance here. Or, put everything in a tiny gift bag.
- Hand out your Valentine’s Cards & Activities!!
- Lower elementary: For kids just learning to write, have them dictate a thoughtful phrase or short sentence to you. Print this clearly on a piece of paper so they can copy it onto their cards easily.
- Upper Elementary: Encourage them to write a fresh note for each friend, using humor or thoughtful word choices. A phrase or single sentence is still fine here, as independence and variety are the goal. Guide them in small details like adding a greeting or closing, even in such a short “letter.”

A quick note about the Write Friend Valentine’s Day Card Printable
A long time ago, I shared a different version of these Valentine cards for free. Unfortunately, I lost that file completely! When I made a new set, I wanted it to feel a little more finished and useful for families — so I decided to offer it through my Etsy shop instead. This way, I can keep creating resources like this, and you still get a simple, easy activity that kids can enjoy right away.
The activities in this printable work for elementary school (ages 6-10 is best), as they require reading and writing skills. You won’t need to prep a lot ahead of time. This is a quick activity at the table!
