I love when our kids do something so cute I just “have to” share it on Facebook or Instagram for a laugh or an “awwww.” But since those posts just flit on down the timeline never to be seen again, I wanted to collect a few bits and pieces of cuteness from our oldest son from the beginning of the year until now. I should do this more often!

Hearing noises upstairs around 9:30 at night, I went up to find my son trying to open his bedroom door, but couldn’t. I opened the door and reached for him in the dark as I sensed him standing by the door. My hands met a wet and sticky head of hair and I thought, “Oh, no!” (my first thought was that he’d fallen off the bed and was bleeding – I know, kinda over the top but…). Turns out, he’d found the pump bottle of lotion which I’d left next to the bed after bathtime and had been helping himself to lotion and more lotion! Bath #2 quickly followed but he smelled like sandalwood for several days!

Son: Daddy, give me a little salad dressing right here! (Points to spot on plate).
Matthew: okay, but it’s going to expand on the plate because it’s a liquid (pours dressing)
Son: (watches dressing spread) oh!! It got bigger!
Matthew: actually it retained the same volume
[ these conversations are normal right?? Lol]

Look ma! A lamb! In my cereal!! (Apparently he’s very visually inclined!!)

My son made this and told me it is a butterfly!!! So smart.

My son, trying to get out of eating lunch: “Mommy, my back hurts!”
Me, “oh no, are you developing psychosomatic symptoms!?”
Son: “yeeeeeahhhh!” Lol

My son came running up to hug me and said, “I have lots of love!”
I made shepherd’s pie for dinner tonight. Asher says: “MOM! You messed up the potatoes? They’re not orange!” (He almost never sees white potatoes in our house! LOL)

I never fail to impress. My son, that is! There I was head first halfway into the recycling bin (which is always a good start to a story, right, and which is just one step up from trash can since hubby thinks EVERYTHING is recyclable!). Searching with a flashlight in the dusk through empty ice cream cartons, muffin wrappers (not! recyclable! hubby!) and endless receipts and boxes from blog review products… for a FedEx package that was purportedly delivered but which I have never seen!!
Just then my toddler comes to the door and starts shouting: “Mommy! You’re a GOOD MOMMY! You’re a GOOD MOMMY!” He was so delighted to see me picking through trash!
I’m thinking “Mom of the Year” award can’t be too far behind… as long as he’s the judge.

Last night I read Goodnight Moon (♥)… we were looking at the big picture and pointing out all the items mentioned in the book… and our son stops and says, “Where’s the camera?”
I said, “What camera?”
He said, “The camera you can talk to me through?” pointing to our video monitor…

I put him to bed and I turned out the light.
He says very quietly from bed, “Mommy?” (this is routine – there’s always something to stall, right?).
So I say, “Yes…??”
He says, “Can you…?”
I say “Can I…?”
He says, “Can you … be my echo!”

Remnants of Christmas: Anytime we sing a song or say a verse or phrase that ends with “…to God,” he adds on “…in the highest” EVERY. Time!
Tonight I was singing “Whether therefore ye eat or drink, do all to the Glory of God.”
Then he chimes in “…in the highest.”

Our son ran into the bedroom around 7 a.m. and said, “It’s THIRTY O’CLOCK! Time to wake up!”
Later that night, at nine p.m., he got out of bed, ran to me and said, “Mommy, I FOUND you! It’s not sleepy time anymore!”
He doesn’t get this from me. I love to sleep!

Me: [typing on the computer]
Son: Can I type something?
Me: Not right now, Mommy’s writing something. One day, I will teach you how to type and you can write your own letters.
Son: [pause] I can do it THIS DAY!
Me: no, not this day
Son: I can teach YOU how to type – look, you do an H!
(this kid cracks me up. daily.)

Snowed in and church is cancelled. I said “Finish up your breakfast and then we will have church.”
He looked stunned then said, “This isn’t church, it’s our HOME!”

Me: We have to go to Ocean State Job Lot today
Son: OH! That’s where the WHALES live! Ocean State! It’s where they LIVE!

Discovered our son got up in the middle of the night, went into the bathroom and proceeded to take out EVERY wet wipe from the box, wipe his face 1x and stuff them ALL back in (and what he couldn’t manage to stuff back in, he crumpled alongside the box. EVERY. SINGLE. WIPE. NEW BOX. What!?
The best part was how he calmly and seriously explained to me in the morning what he had done. “Like this, Mommy, you have to wipe, like this.” 🙂

Eating chicken pot pie tonight… our son looks up from his bowl and exclaims: “There’s Jimmy Crack Corn in here!!”

Our son gave me the last apple in his bowl and told me, “That’s sharing!” ♥ (now, he’s confused and thinks taking toys from his baby brother means he’s sharing also!)

“Mommy, my sammy was yucky, I spit it out.”
I said “You mean ‘Yummy!’ your sammy is yummy and you stuck it in your mouth?”
No, he did NOT mean that at all. He said what he meant the first time!
Lesson: Take what your kids say literally, and you won’t be surprised by a gooey, half-chewed mess on the table later on…

And…I was so proud of myself this night… Matthew came home from basketball and I said, “I put the two boys to bed by myself!” (trust me, this was SOME accomplishment when the boys were 2.5 and 4 months old!). Hubby goes upstairs and says, “Um,… was one of them naked when you put him to bed?” nooooooooo…. 🙂
Well… there you have it – all the funny bits and pieces from the past six months!
Oh… and if you’re wondering what the baby is doing while all these schenanigans are going on… this pretty much sums it up: Sleeping and eating. Sometimes at the same time!
Do you have any funny stories to share?

These are so cute! You have a funny little boy! I loved the one where he says "in the highest" after you say "to God." It's so much fun having little boys!
