I know your kids never fight.
I know they never snap at each other.
Never yell, “Stop it!”
“Go away!”
“My turn!”
I know they probably never sigh and roll their eyes and say, “I don’t WANNA do it!” to you.
Oh…. wait, so… your kids too?
Turns out we all have a problem with words. We all have a hard time showing compassion in talking to one another. Otherwise… why would bullying be a constant news topic?
So today, because words are so important to me, as a writer… but mostly because we all need it, I’m writing a prayer poem for kind words.
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. Proverbs 15:1
Prayer Poem for Kind Words
Let their words be soft, Lord,
Answers that heal,
Answers that forgive
Let their words be a balm,
bending anger
into peace instead of swords
Let their words be sweet, Lord,
honey to the heart of the hurting
oil on the water boiling anger
not raised
not rebuking
not resenting
Let their words be soft, Lord.
What’s your prayer today for your little ones? (or grown ones!)

Let their mom be soft, Lord, Answers that heal, Answers that forgive Let their mom be a balm, bending anger into peace instead of swords Let their mom be sweet, Lord, honey to the heart of the hurting oil on the water boiling anger not raised not rebuking not resenting Let their mom be soft, Lord.
That's my prayer - because I see how much their words resemble my own.
You too?

I think your prayer is spot on for adults as well. Really well written, I plan to copy it off and post it on our family bulletin board.
Thanks!

What a beautiful prayer poem for your little guys! My prayer is that my girls (who aren't so little any more) realize that their beauty comes from within--a gift of love from God--and therefore their words and thoughts can always be warmed by the glow of his love.

My prayer is for my children to know contentment. To feel secure, love and confidence. I love the soft words prayer, too. So important.
Right now I am listening to my seventeen-year-old daughter playing Super Mario something or other with my thirteen-year-old son. Precious, these moments.
