Miner’s Quest Minecraft-themed Party Ideas – Quick & Easy!

Do I have to start EVERY birthday blog post with the disclaimer that “I can’t believe” my kids are X-number of years old?! Because it’s true every time. No matter how obvious it seems, the years go faster than the dishwasher gets filled up, it seems! So here we are, and I’m ready to share my fourteen-year-old’s Miner’s Quest Minecraft-themed party ideas with you!

Now, this isn’t going to be my typical full-blown birthday party post. You can get those here. The reason is, my son originally said he did not want a birthday party theme this year. “I just want a party-themed party!” That’s right – he wanted his birthday party theme to be… birthday party! So funny!

At the last minute, he changed his mind and wanted me to do Minecraft. So I did not have as much time to develop this party! But you know what the beautiful thing about having older kids is? My boys helped me plan and prep most of this party! I love the way birthday parties have become a special bond for me and the boys.

Another reason this post won’t be as thorough is that we don’t actually have Minecraft here at home – he plays it only at a friend’s house. So I’m not as savvy on this topic as I am on say… Lord of the Rings party theme ideas!

But here goes with our Miner’s Quest: Minecraft-themed party ideas! PS: But seriously – who IS this grown up guy!?

Miner’s Quest: Minecraft-themed party ideas

The color palette of a Minecraft themed party is going to be black and brown and green. It’s not the most FUN party color scheme out there. However, if you focus on the GREEN part of things, you’ll do well.

Miner’s Quest: Minecraft Decor Ideas

Look for supplies around Easter and St. Patrick’s Day, because that’s when all the green party items go on sale. Plus, Minecraft has a lot game items kids use that can become party decor. For instance, apparently carrots are a big deal in the game, and since my son’s birthday comes just when Easter stuff is hitting the store, I scored a set of carrot shaped dessert plates! For the win!

Walmart also has a good supply of Minecraft themed party goods like the Creeper and TNT plates I bought. Plus Creeper balloons. As I said, at Easter there are even special Creeper Easter baskets and small candies and toys with a Minecraft theme that can make the party fun!

I did not have time to make party T-shirts as I used to do. So I bought the boys Minecraft shirts at the store. For under $6 that was a great deal! Sometimes you just have to save time!

Miner’s Quest Party Garland

I went simple this year and designed a quick printable banner on Canva using faux “sod” block graphics and a video game font. Printed on green paper, it was perfect! These I cut and strung in a “line” across our dining room wall. Minecraft is so blocky, it didn’t feel right to “swag” things around too much!

Miner’s Quest: A Minecraft-themed Birthday Cake

Okay, this will be the easiest cake you ever made! I simply frosted a square cake green. Then used Ghirardelli chocolate squares turned upside down to create a Creeper face! You’ll have to cut some in half to achieve the right shape. Or, you could use fondant to cut out the shape. I used a Minecraft Cake Topper to add some pizzazz because, let’s face it, my Creeper chocolates were NOT the most skilled. 🙂

Because we also make a gluten-free cake for parties, I decided to make the second cake into a “ghost creeper,” which I am told is called a ghast. Basically, I got tired of making green frosting, so I needed something white from the game. My boys came through for me with the ideas for this one!

Miner’s Quest: Minecraft Themed Snack Bar

As I mentioned, there are so many items in the game, it’s fun to figure out what treats can represent the various tools and items. Here’s what we came up with:

  • Butter Snap Pretzels – trapdoors
  • Stick Pretzels – Sticks (ha)
  • Hershey’s Nuggets – Iron (the silver ones)
  • Reeses Peanut Butter Cups – Gold
  • Coconut Rolls or Wafer Roll Cookies – Bamboo
  • Various Hershey Kisses – gems, diamonds, red stone
  • Swedish Fish – salmon
  • Twizzlers – TNT (cut in half, and “tie” them in bundles with black card stock strips)

You could really go on and on finding snacks and candies that could be part of the gameplay items!

Minecraft Party Game!

As the boys have gotten older, it’s harder to find ways to make their parties fun without being childish. Enter: Escape Room Games! I created a Miner’s Quest themed game for them to play with their cousins. Everyone had a good time solving the puzzles on a Minecraft theme. Plus this kept them all busy for about 20 minutes (it was a mini version of the game). If I were throwing a more involved party, I would’ve hidden the game puzzles around and/or had a locked box of treats as the prize at the end of the game.

It’s true, my birthday party posts are typically much more thorough. But this was a last minute theme. I hope this shows you how easy it is to take anything and make a party out of it in just a few days time!

Birthday parties don’t have to be too complicated to be celebratory and special! With just a little effort, you can make a party come together out of what you have on hand and simple supplies from the store!
