Party Theme Ideas :: A Farm / Tractor Birthday Party

Themed birthday parties have become my micro-hobby of sorts. For our son turning three, I wanted to do something with animals, but I knew he’d want vehicles, so I did a farm / tractor combo party! This party theme idea turned out SO well (and we’ve done many combo themes since!). Here’s our ideas for a Farm / Tractor Birthday Party for kids!

Farm / Tractor Birthday Party Ideas

I wanted all the party details from invitation to food to games to reflect the theme! I’m excited to share my ideas with you. I think the farm / tractor theme could work equally well for a boy or girl party, as most kids love animals. And I’ve seen cute pink tractor ideas!

{Invitations}

I love creating a custom card for party invites. This year’s was a hand-stamped card. I found aqua and lime cards and envelopes, and added the polka dot center for contrast. A scalloped circle with a stamped tractor set the theme up right off the bat. Then more farm motif stamps underneath. Party details were on the back. This was a simple card to create!

{Party Decor}

In addition to making an easy fabric garland to swag over the dessert table, I also appliqued tractor shirts for the boys. These could be no-sew if you use double-sided interfacing, but I chose to stitch around the design for contrast.

{Party Favors & Games}

Several games played at the party were sent home as party favors! First we did a stamp-a-scene craft time, using the large farm stamp set from the invitations, along with farm animals stamp sets kids took home afterwards.

While they did cooperative play assembling a farm floor puzzle, the craft table was cleared and changed to a painting table! Farm animals Paint With Water was a quick and easy craft. We had a matching game, but not enough time to play. Kids took the mini games home to enjoy later, making them great party favors.

My sister was kind enough to draw a large tractor and wheel for Pin the Wheel on the Tractor game – a new twist on a classic party game!

{Party Buffet}

Party foods are a great way to translate your theme into a party! Just find creative names for your dishes! Pigs in a Blanket were in The Pig Pen, utensils were Pitchforks and Shovels… Shredded Turkey BBQ and Coleslaw became Turkey in the Straw, and baked beans were Chicken Feed… and so on! Even the macaroni and cheese was made with mini wheel shaped pasta to continue the tractor theme! If you want to use these ideas, here’s a free printable for food labels!

For beverages, we visited a local soda bottler for yellow and green soda flavors, and used mason jars as cups. Add festive paper straws in yellow and green polka dots and stripes!

{Dessert Table}

Sweets tables have been the rage for years now at parties. I kept it simple with a bowl of “Tractor wheels” cookies, and “Hay Bale” Rice Krispie Treats! For added farm-ness, this wooden farm block set was a huge hit with the kids waiting to be served their cake, and added to the theme! I love party decor that lives on long after the balloons have popped!

{Birthday Cake}

When pulling together a themed party on a budget or as a novice cake decorator, cupcakes are the way to go (I still called on my sister’s chef-spertise to help me!). Chocolate and vanilla cupcakes formed this tractor shaped “cake” which was easy to make and serve!

Our son loved every minute of his farm / tractor party, and has been talking about it for days, continuing to play with the decorations and games. The party atmosphere has lingered in our house… and that’s fine by me!
